NEET-UG to shift to CBT mode from 2027: NTA to SC

Business To Business, New Delhi, 29th May, 2026:    The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday informed the Supreme Court of India that it is prepared to conduct NEET-UG in computer-based test (CBT) mode from next year instead of the traditional pen-and-paper format.
The statement was made before a bench comprising Justices P. S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe, which is hearing petitions linked to the alleged paper leak controversy that led to the cancellation of the May 3 NEET-UG examination this year.
In an affidavit submitted to the court, the NTA said a High-Level Committee of Experts (HLCE) had recommended shifting NEET-UG to CBT mode after consultations with the Centre.
The move is aimed at strengthening exam security, improving transparency, and reducing the possibility of question paper leaks in one of India’s largest entrance examinations.
