Business To Business, Guwahati, 29th July, 2026: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a detailed report from the Assam government within two weeks on the recent factory explosion in Cachar district that claimed four lives and left two others seriously injured.
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the commission took suo motu cognisance of media reports on the incident and observed that, if the reported facts are true, they raise serious concerns over possible violations of human rights.
The NHRC has accordingly issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Assam and the Superintendent of Police, Cachar, directing them to submit a comprehensive report on the incident within two weeks.
The commission's report is expected to cover the circumstances surrounding the explosion, the action taken by the authorities, and the measures initiated to provide relief and ensure accountability.
