According to officials, the arrests relate to incidents that took place last month during election-related administrative work ahead of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly Elections.
The agency said it conducted extensive searches in Malda district on Monday before apprehending the suspects.
The NIA stated that:

  • Judicial officers engaged in the SIR exercise were allegedly confined
  • The cases are being investigated under multiple serious charges related to obstruction of official duty and unlawful confinement
The investigation was taken over by the National Investigation Agency after directions from the Election Commission of India and subsequent judicial scrutiny.
Authorities said further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of coordination and responsibility behind the incidents.
