No power can stop India from being biggest exporter of weapons in 25-30 years: Rajnath

Business To Business, Mumbai, 23rd May, 2026:  Rajnath Singh on Saturday said that India has the potential to become one of the world’s largest defence exporters within the next 25 to 30 years, asserting that no power can stop the country’s rise in defence manufacturing.
Speaking after inaugurating an ammunition manufacturing unit in Shirdi, Singh said that a nation capable of producing its own weapons “writes its own destiny,” underlining the strategic importance of self-reliance in defence production.
The minister noted that the participation of private companies in India’s defence manufacturing sector was negligible a few years ago but has now increased to around 25–30 per cent. He added that the government aims to further raise private sector participation to nearly 50 per cent.
The remarks align with the Centre’s broader push toward:

  • Indigenous defence production
  • Reduced dependence on imports
  • Expansion of defence exports
  • Greater private sector participation under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative
India has in recent years increased investment in domestic defence manufacturing, encouraged technology partnerships, and promoted exports of military equipment and systems to foreign countries.
