No proposal for special Parliament session on women's reservation, delimitation bills: Rijiju

Business To Business, New Delhi, 05 August, 2026: Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday night said there is no proposal to convene a special session of Parliament from August 16 to 18 to consider the women's reservation and delimitation bills.
His clarification comes amid political speculation that the government might call a special session after Independence Day to reintroduce legislation related to:

33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.
Delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies, including a proposal to increase the number of seats.

The speculation followed reports that the government was trying to build consensus during the ongoing Monsoon Session by reaching out to the Indian National Congress, allies in the National Democratic Alliance, and other opposition parties after an earlier effort reportedly did not secure sufficient support.
However, Rijiju's statement indicates that no proposal is currently under consideration for a special parliamentary session between August 16 and 18 for these bills.
His remarks address only the question of a special session and do not, by themselves, rule out discussions or legislative action on the proposed measures during the ongoing Monsoon Session or at another time.
