Odisha to install 360-degree surveillance cameras along its coastline for weather monitoring

Business To Business Bhubaneshwar, 06 August, 2026:   Suresh Pujari on Thursday announced that the Odisha government will install 360-degree surveillance cameras along the state's coastline to strengthen its weather monitoring and disaster management capabilities.
The minister said the decision comes in response to increasingly unpredictable weather patterns and the growing impact of climate change.
Key announcements

  • 360-degree surveillance cameras will be installed along the Odisha coast to enhance weather surveillance and monitoring.
  • The initiative aims to improve early warning systems and strengthen disaster preparedness.
Reason for the move
Pujari noted that Odisha recently experienced simultaneous flooding in several major river systems, including:
  • Mahanadi
  • Salandi
  • Brahmani
  • Baitarani
  • Budhabalanga
  • Devi
  • Jalaka
He said that flooding occurring simultaneously across multiple river basins reflects changing weather patterns associated with climate change.
According to the minister, strengthening coastal surveillance and weather monitoring infrastructure will help the state respond more effectively to extreme weather events, improve disaster preparedness and support timely decision-making during natural calamities.
