Over 4.6 lakh calls received on de-addiction helpline: Govt tells RS

Business To Business, New Delhi, 05 August, 2026:   The Union government on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that more than 4.6 lakh calls have been received on the National Toll-Free De-Addiction Helpline (14446) since it became operational.
Responding to a question in the House, B. L. Verma said the helpline has been established by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to support individuals affected by substance use and their families.
The 14446 helpline provides:

  • Information on substance use and treatment options.
  • Counselling and guidance.
  • Motivation and emotional support.
  • Referral services.
  • Assistance in accessing nearby de-addiction and rehabilitation centres.
Verma said:
"Till date, more than 4.6+ lakh calls have been received on the helpline."
The helpline is part of the government's efforts to improve access to de-addiction services and connect people with appropriate counselling, treatment and rehabilitation facilities across the country.
