Park Circus unrest: Suvendu issues 'final' warning, vows zero tolerance on attacks against police

Business To Business, Kolkata, 18th May, 2026:    Suvendu Adhikari on Monday declared a policy of “zero tolerance” towards vandalism and attacks on police personnel, warning that the strictest legal action would be taken against those involved in such incidents.
Speaking after visiting the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) in Kolkata and meeting injured police personnel following violence in the Park Circus-Tiljala area, Adhikari said that if such incidents were repeated, “no one will be worse than me as the home minister”.
The chief minister drew parallels with Jammu and Kashmir, saying the culture of stone-pelting had ended there and would not be allowed to continue in West Bengal either.
The remarks came a day after protests linked to a bulldozer drive against alleged illegal structures turned violent in the Muslim-majority Park Circus area, leaving several police personnel injured.
Adhikari also used the occasion to project a strong law-and-order stance and contrasted his administration’s approach with that of previous governments in the state.
