Business To Business, New Delhi, 14th May 2026: India on Thursday expressed serious concern over the escalating West Asia crisis and its impact on global energy supplies and maritime stability in the Strait of Hormuz, urging BRICS nations to evolve “practical ways” to deal with unprecedented geopolitical and economic uncertainty as well as “unilateral coercive” sanctions.
Addressing the opening session of the two-day BRICS conclave in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity must remain the foundation of international relations.
Without naming any specific countries, Jaishankar stressed that “dialogue and diplomacy” remain the only sustainable route to resolving conflicts.
He also said India was prepared to contribute constructively to de-escalation efforts and support initiatives aimed at restoring regional stability.
“Peace cannot be piecemeal,” Jaishankar said, adding that it was essential to uphold international law, protect civilians and avoid targeting public infrastructure during conflicts.
The remarks come amid growing international concern over the economic and strategic consequences of tensions in West Asia, particularly for energy-importing nations dependent on maritime trade routes through the Gulf region.
