PM Modi hails Union Cabinet's decisions on compressed biogas scheme, road project in Assam
Business To Business New Delhi, 06 August, 2026: Narendra Modi on Thursday welcomed the Union Cabinet's approval of the GOBARdhan Scheme and a new four-lane access-controlled highway between Guwahati and Tezpur in Assam, saying the decisions will boost clean energy, improve connectivity and encourage investment.
GOBARdhan Scheme
The Cabinet approved a Rs 23,731-crore national scheme to accelerate the production of compressed biogas (CBG).
The scheme aims to:
- Increase production of compressed biogas using agricultural residue and municipal waste.
- Reduce India's dependence on imported fossil fuels.
- Promote scientific waste management.
- Support the country's clean energy transition.
- Create a stronger ecosystem for investment and innovation in the bioenergy sector.
Guwahati–Tezpur Highway
The Cabinet also approved the construction of a
four-lane access-controlled highway between
Guwahati and
Tezpur.
According to the Prime Minister, the project will:
- Strengthen seamless connectivity in Assam.
- Improve transportation efficiency.
- Support regional economic development.
- Enhance logistics and infrastructure in the Northeast.
Modi said both decisions reflect the government's focus on building modern infrastructure while advancing sustainable energy solutions, creating a more predictable environment for investment, innovation and long-term economic growth.
