PM raised issue of safety of India sailors during recent meet with Trump: Govt to LS

Business To Business, New Delhi, 25^th July, 2026:   Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of the safety of Indian maritime workers and sailors during his bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in June and at the G7 Summit Outreach Session the same month, the government informed Parliament on Friday.
In a written reply to a query in Parliament, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said the Prime Minister highlighted that the ongoing conflict in West Asia had disrupted global maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz and resulted in the loss of lives, including those of Indian seafarers.
The Ministry of External Affairs was responding to a question on whether the safety of Indian maritime workers had been discussed following the killing of some Indian seafarers in a US military strike in the Gulf of Oman last month, during Prime Minister Modi's bilateral meeting with President Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Paris.
According to the government, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of ensuring the safety and security of Indian maritime personnel amid the evolving security situation in the region and its impact on international shipping.
