PM to commission three indigenously built naval ships in Kolkata

Business To Business, Kolkata, 19th June, 2026:  Narendra Modi will commission three indigenously built naval vessels into the Indian Navy on Sunday, marking a significant step in India's efforts to strengthen its maritime capabilities and promote self-reliance in defence production.
According to an official statement, the three frontline platforms—Dunagiri, Sanshodhak, and Agray—will be commissioned at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata.
The vessels were designed by the Warship Design Bureau and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), the Kolkata-based defence public sector undertaking.
The three platforms represent distinct operational capabilities:

  • Dunagiri — designed for maritime combat and frontline naval operations.
  • Sanshodhak — intended for hydrographic and oceanographic surveying missions.
  • Agray — equipped for anti-submarine warfare and maritime security tasks.
The commissioning underscores India's focus on indigenous shipbuilding under the broader goal of enhancing defence self-sufficiency while expanding the operational strength of the Indian Navy across multiple mission domains.
