Business To Business, New Delhi, 26th June, 2026: The Railway Board has assured employees of the Signal and Telecommunications Department that their grievances will be addressed after thousands of workers observed 'Demand Day' on June 24 to highlight concerns over workplace safety and working conditions.
Employees across the network reported for duty wearing Demand Day badges and black ribbons on their arms in protest against what they described as the Railway Board's continued disregard for issues affecting their safety and adherence to prescribed working norms.
According to Alok Chandra Prakash, senior Railway Board officials invited representatives of the Indian Railway Signal and Telecom Maintainers' Union for discussions immediately after the protest.
"Immediately after the protest, senior Railway Board officials called us for a meeting, listened to our grievances, and assured us that they would resolve them," Prakash said.
The union said the protest was aimed at drawing attention to issues that it believes pose risks to the safety of Signal and Telecommunications Department employees and affect compliance with established working standards.
The Railway Board's assurance has raised expectations among employees that their concerns regarding workplace safety, staffing and operational norms will be addressed through further consultations and appropriate measures.
