Railway ministry suspects anti-social elements behind rising train-fire incidents

Business To Business, New Delhi, 29th May, 2026:    Officials from the Ministry of Railways on Friday said an internal investigation has suggested that anti-social elements could be responsible for the recent rise in incidents of fire and smoke inside train coaches.
A senior railway official said preliminary probes into multiple recent train fire incidents also pointed to negligent or irresponsible behaviour by some passengers.
The official cited a fresh incident reported on Friday involving a fire in the toilet of the D-5 coach of train number 17642, the Narkhed–Kacheguda Express, at Hingoli railway station. The train operates under the Nanded Division.
Railway authorities said investigations are continuing to determine the exact causes of such incidents and identify those responsible.
