Business To Business, Kolkata, 6th June, 2026: Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday announced that railway projects worth approximately ₹1 lakh crore would be undertaken in West Bengal and directed state officials to prepare a schedule for handing over the land required for their implementation.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Ashwini Vaishnaw at Nabanna, Adhikari said the state government would work closely with the Railways to facilitate the projects and address land-related requirements.
The Chief Minister also criticized the previous administration led by the All India Trinamool Congress, alleging that relations between the state and the Centre had been marked by a "warlike" atmosphere. According to Adhikari, this strained relationship had hindered railway development in the state.
He argued that improved coordination between the state and central governments following the change in administration would help remove obstacles and accelerate railway infrastructure projects across West Bengal.
The proposed investments are expected to cover a range of railway development initiatives, though detailed project-wise allocations and timelines have not yet been publicly announced. Adhikari's comments regarding the previous government's role in project delays represent a political assessment and may be disputed by the opposition.
