Business To Business, New Delhi, 27th June, 2026: In a boost to the marketing of Kashmir's seasonal fruit, the Northern Railway's Jammu Division has dispatched more than nine tonnes of fresh plums to Chennai and Kolkata through its parcel services over the past five days, an official said.
A railway spokesperson said the shipment follows the successful transportation of cherries and litchis and marks another important step in expanding the distribution of fresh fruits from Jammu and Kashmir to markets across the country.
On Friday, the Jammu Division loaded and dispatched 284 packets, weighing about three tonnes, of fresh plums from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station to Chennai.
The spokesperson added that approximately 587 packets, weighing around 6.1 tonnes, were transported from Jammu Tawi railway station to Kolkata between June 22 and June 25.
The initiative is aimed at providing fruit growers in Jammu and Kashmir with faster and more reliable access to distant markets, helping them secure better prices for their produce while ensuring the timely delivery of fresh fruit to consumers.
Railway officials said the use of parcel services for transporting perishable agricultural products is expected to strengthen supply chains and support the horticulture sector in the Union Territory.
