Business To Business, Kolkata, 23rd May, 2026:  The West Bengal government on Saturday initiated departmental proceedings against a doctor who had earlier been suspended in connection with the rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
According to a notification issued by the state Health and Family Welfare Department, action has been initiated against Dr Avik De, the former resident medical officer of the Radiodiagnosis Department at Burdwan Medical College. He is currently an in-service postgraduate trainee in General Surgery at IPGME&R.
The government has also ordered a separate inquiry into his admission to the postgraduate course.
The notification stated that R. N. Ravi approved the initiation of departmental proceedings. Dr De has remained under suspension since September 2024 under the West Bengal Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1971.
