Rijiju welcomes SAD's revised stand on women's quota, delimitation

Business To Business, New Delhi, 08 August, 2026:   Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday welcomed the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)'s revised position on the proposed women's reservation and delimitation bills.
Rijiju said political parties should come together to ensure women's empowerment through a fair and equitable delimitation of Lok Sabha seats.
SAD's revised position
The Shiromani Akali Dal has called for Parliament to pass:

  • The Women's Reservation Bill
  • The Delimitation Bill
The party proposed a uniform 50% increase in Lok Sabha seats for every state, arguing that this would allow both measures to be implemented without further delay.
Political context
SAD's revised position came a day after party president Sukhbir Singh Badal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
The meeting has fuelled speculation in political circles about a possible rapprochement between the SAD and the BJP, although the report does not establish that any formal alliance decision has been reached.
Rijiju's endorsement signals the government's willingness to engage with the revised SAD proposal as discussions continue over the future shape of parliamentary representation and women's reservation.
