Sikh Regiment-Guru Nanak University deal to provide higher education opportunities for Agniveers
Business To Business, Chandigarh, 18th June, 2026: The Sikh Regiment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guru Nanak Dev University to enable Agniveers serving in the regiment to pursue higher education while continuing their military service.
- The MoU was signed on June 16 by the Commandant of the Sikh Regimental Centre on behalf of the regiment.
- Agniveers will be able to enroll in diploma and undergraduate programmes offered through the university.
- The arrangement is designed to allow soldiers to continue their studies alongside their military responsibilities.
- The initiative aims to enhance the educational qualifications and career prospects of Agniveers during and after their service.
The agreement supports the broader objective of the Agnipath Scheme, under which recruits serve as Agniveers for a fixed tenure.
By providing access to higher education, the partnership can help Agniveers:
- Acquire academic qualifications while in service.
- Develop additional professional and technical skills.
- Improve employability after completing their military tenure.
- Prepare for future careers in both the public and private sectors.
The collaboration reflects a growing emphasis on combining military training with educational advancement. Such initiatives are intended to ensure that personnel gain not only operational experience but also formal academic credentials that can support long-term career development.
The partnership between the Sikh Regiment and Guru Nanak Dev University is expected to serve as a model for integrating education with military service. It aligns with efforts to strengthen skill development, lifelong learning, and career readiness among young personnel serving in the armed forces.
The move is likely to benefit current and future Agniveers by providing structured pathways for higher education without requiring them to interrupt their service commitments.
