Spice factory raided in Rajkot, suspected adulterated stock worth Rs 1.1 cr seized

Business To Business, Rajkot, 18th June, 2026:  The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) has seized more than 35,500 kilograms of suspected adulterated food products valued at over ₹1.11 crore from a spice manufacturing unit in Rajkot district.
According to officials, the action was carried out by the FDCA's Rajkot unit during a raid on June 17 at a factory located in the Bhimwadi area of Gondal.
The operation was part of an ongoing statewide campaign targeting:

  • Adulterated food products
  • Substandard food items
  • Violations of food safety regulations
During the inspection:
  • Officials identified stocks of food products considered suspicious.
  • Four samples were collected for laboratory testing and quality analysis.
  • More than 35,500 kg of food products were seized pending the outcome of the investigation.
  • The value of the seized material was estimated at over ₹1.11 crore.
The collected samples will undergo laboratory examination to determine whether the products:
  • Meet prescribed food safety standards.
  • Contain adulterants or prohibited substances.
  • Comply with labeling and quality requirements.
Further action will depend on the test results. If violations are confirmed, authorities may initiate proceedings under relevant food safety laws, which can include penalties, prosecution, product recalls, or cancellation of licenses.
The seizure forms part of intensified enforcement efforts by Gujarat authorities to curb food adulteration and protect consumer health. Food safety agencies across India often increase inspections of spice manufacturers, edible oil units, dairy facilities, and other food-processing businesses to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Such drives are aimed at preventing the sale of unsafe or misbranded food products and strengthening public confidence in food safety systems.
