Surojit Nath Mitra appointed West Bengal's advocate general

Business To Business, Kolkata, 29th May, 2026:    Senior advocate Surojit Nath Mitra was appointed as the Advocate General of West Bengal on Friday, according to an official notification issued by the state judicial department.
The notification stated that the governor appointed Mitra as the state’s top law officer under Article 165(1) of the Constitution of India.
It added that the appointment came into effect from Friday afternoon itself.
The Advocate General is the highest legal officer of a state and advises the state government on legal and constitutional matters.
