Suvendu aide murder: CBI visits crime spot, probe hints at Rs 1 crore contract killing

Business To Business, Kolkata, 12th May 2026: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation, accompanied by forensic experts, visited the murder scene of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s aide Chandranath Rath in North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday as investigators intensified efforts to solve the case, which they suspect was a meticulously planned contract killing, police sources said.
Investigators believe that more than Rs 1 crore may have been spent to execute the killing of Rath inside his car on a public road in Madhyamgram on May 6, two days after the declaration of the West Bengal Assembly election results.
The CBI team, led by DIG Pankaj Kumar Singh, spent several hours at the crime scene reconstructing the sequence of events and reviewing evidence gathered earlier by investigators.
According to sources, forensic analysis, CCTV footage examination and scrutiny of call records are among the key elements of the probe as the agency attempts to identify those involved in the alleged conspiracy and execution of the murder.
