Business To Business, Kolkata, 6th June, 2026: Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday announced that railway projects worth around ₹1 lakh crore would be implemented in West Bengal in the coming years, following discussions with Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Addressing a joint press conference at Nabanna Sabhaghar ahead of a review meeting on ongoing projects, Adhikari said district magistrates have been directed to prepare a detailed calendar for handing over land required for the proposed railway developments.
He stated that improved coordination between the state and the Centre would enable faster execution of long-pending railway projects. According to him, earlier political differences between the state government and the central leadership had slowed down railway development in Bengal.
Referring to the previous administration led by the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), he alleged there had been a “war-like situation” between the state and the Centre, which he claimed resulted in stalled railway progress. He added that the change in the state’s political approach would now help resolve such issues.
The announcements come amid a broader push for infrastructure expansion in West Bengal, particularly in rail connectivity and metro projects, though detailed timelines and project-wise allocations are yet to be officially released.
