Business To Business, Kolkata, 08th July, 2026: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday launched the 'Swachh Kavach' programme, an initiative aimed at providing safety kits to 50,000 sanitation workers across the state while promoting safer working conditions and greater public participation in maintaining cleanliness.
The programme was formally launched at a function in Kolkata.
Addressing the event, Adhikari highlighted the vital role played by sanitation workers in maintaining public health and urban hygiene, stressing that they deserve safe working conditions and proper protective equipment.
"Our sanitation workers are the silent force behind clean and healthy cities. It is our responsibility to ensure that they are equipped with proper safety gear and work in dignified conditions," the Chief Minister said.
Under the 'Swachh Kavach' initiative, safety kits will be distributed to sanitation workers across West Bengal to help protect them from occupational hazards encountered during waste collection, street cleaning and other sanitation-related duties.
Adhikari also appealed to citizens to actively participate in cleanliness drives and adopt responsible waste management practices, stating that maintaining clean cities requires collective efforts from both the government and the public.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing the welfare of sanitation workers, improving workplace safety and reinforcing the state's commitment to creating cleaner, healthier and more sustainable urban environments.
