Suvendu lays foundation stone of steel project in Bankura, vows Bengal's industrial revival

Business To Business, Kolkata, 19th July, 2026:    West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday promised an investor-friendly environment with improved law and order, easier access to industrial land and employment-linked incentives, while accusing the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of driving away investments and leaving the state industrially stagnant.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony for Shyam Steel Group's Rs 15,000-crore integrated steel plant expansion at Mejia in Bankura district, Adhikari described the project as the BJP government's largest industrial initiative since assuming office. He also outlined a broader investment roadmap, stating that the Adani Group, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group and Flipkart were among the companies planning fresh investments in West Bengal.
Adhikari said the industrialisation of western Bengal was crucial to reversing decades of migration from districts such as Bankura, Purulia, Paschim Bardhaman and Birbhum, and emphasised that the government was committed to creating a conducive environment for investment and employment generation.
