Suvendu seeks death penalty for gateman in Murshidabad level crossing accident that claimed 5 lives

Business To Business, Kolkata, 23rd July, 2026:   West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday directed the police to expedite the investigation into the Murshidabad level crossing accident that claimed five lives and asked the prosecution to seek capital punishment for the arrested gateman.
Adhikari issued the directions after meeting the families of the victims and handing over compensation cheques of Rs 5 lakh to each bereaved family.
The accident occurred on July 17 at the Govindpur level crossing in Murshidabad district, when a train collided with a school vehicle, killing five people, including four students.
