Suvendu unveils police modernisation plans as Bengal signs MoU with Rashtriya Raksha University
Business To Business, Kolkata, 17th June, 2026: Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday announced a series of initiatives to modernise policing in the state following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the West Bengal government and Rashtriya Raksha University.
The agreement was signed at the state secretariat and is aimed at strengthening the capabilities of both the West Bengal Police and the Kolkata Police.
According to the Chief Minister, the partnership will:
- Provide specialised training programmes for police personnel.
- Enhance skills in emerging areas of law enforcement and internal security.
- Promote the use of modern scientific and technological tools in policing.
- Support capacity-building and professional development across different ranks of the police force.
- Improve preparedness to tackle evolving security challenges, including cybercrime, digital investigations, and modern forensic requirements.
Adhikari said the collaboration with Rashtriya Raksha University would help restore and strengthen professional excellence within the state's police system. He emphasized the importance of advanced training, technology-driven policing, and continuous skill enhancement to meet the demands of contemporary law enforcement.
The Chief Minister noted that policing is becoming increasingly complex due to technological changes and new forms of crime, making specialised education and training essential.
Rashtriya Raksha University operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs and focuses on education, research, and training in national security, policing, criminal justice, cyber security, and strategic studies. The university works with police forces, security agencies, and government institutions across India.
The state government believes the partnership will help create a more technologically equipped and professionally trained police force capable of addressing modern security threats. The initiative is also expected to expand opportunities for advanced courses, research collaboration, and specialised certification programmes for police personnel in West Bengal.
The MoU reflects a broader push toward modernization of policing through greater use of technology, data-driven investigations, forensic science, and professional training.
