Business To Business, Kolkata, 24th July, 2026: Two officials of the West Bengal Transport Department have been suspended over allegations of extortion and abuse of power at the Rampur checkpost in Paschim Bardhaman district, according to a statement posted on Friday by Suvendu Adhikari.
In a post on X, Adhikari said the disciplinary action was taken following a complaint from the owner and driver of a truck.
According to the complaint, the truck was allegedly stopped unlawfully while returning to a garage after servicing. The driver claimed he was harassed and pressured to pay a bribe by officials at the checkpost.
Adhikari said that after the driver refused to pay, the vehicle was seized and officials allegedly demanded Rs 22,000 towards a tax that had already been abolished by the state government.
The suspension of the two officials comes pending further inquiry into the allegations of misconduct and misuse of authority.
