Union law ministry releases over Rs 401 cr for infra development of lower courts

Business To Business, New Delhi, 13th May 2026: The Ministry of Law and Justice on Wednesday released the first instalment of the “mother sanction” amounting to Rs 401.50 crore for the current financial year to states and Union Territories for the development of infrastructure facilities in district and subordinate courts.
The funds, released under a centrally sponsored scheme, are intended to strengthen judicial infrastructure across the country by supporting the efforts of state governments and Union Territories in improving court facilities.
In a related move aimed at enhancing court infrastructure, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Tuesday constituted a “Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee” under the chairmanship of Aravind Kumar.
According to officials, the committee has been tasked with working towards the creation of a unified and modern judicial infrastructure ecosystem on a pan-India basis.
The initiative is expected to focus on improving court buildings, digital infrastructure, judicial accessibility and overall administrative efficiency within the district and subordinate judiciary system.
