Kolkata, New Delhi, INDIA. New York, USA.
Business To Business, New Delhi, 22nd May, 2026: Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, is set to arrive in India on Saturday for a four-day visit — his first trip to the country since assuming office — amid efforts to strengthen bilateral ties that have faced strains since mid-last year.
Rubio is expected to hold extensive discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday. The talks are likely to cover strategic cooperation, trade, regional security, and developments in the Indo-Pacific region.
The US secretary of state will also participate in a meeting of the Quad foreign ministers in New Delhi on Tuesday. The Quad grouping includes India, the United States, Japan, and Australia.
According to people familiar with the matter, Rubio is also scheduled to visit Kolkata, Agra, and Jaipur during his stay.
The visit is being seen as an important diplomatic engagement aimed at reinforcing India-US cooperation on economic, strategic, and geopolitical issues, particularly at a time of evolving regional dynamics in Asia and ongoing global security challenges.
