West Bengal rice industry seeks infra push, faster clearances from new BJP govt

Business To Business, Kolkata, 17th May 2026:  The rice industry in West Bengal has urged the new Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state to improve infrastructure, speed up approvals and strengthen export promotion measures to support growth and investment in the sector.
West Bengal is India’s largest rice-producing state, and industry representatives say better logistics and policy support are essential for expanding operations.
Suraj Agarwal, chief executive officer of Ricevilla Foods, said the industry expects improved infrastructure for rice mills and warehouses, especially in rural districts where inadequate roads, poor drainage systems and delays in electricity connections continue to hamper operations.
According to Agarwal, electricity connections for new rice mills in several rural areas often take months, resulting in project delays, higher costs and operational difficulties.
The industry is also seeking quicker government clearances and stronger export facilitation measures to help West Bengal’s rice sector expand its domestic and international market presence.
