World Bank ED Parameswaran Iyer to represent India at IMF board

Business Aajkal, New Delhi, 05 May 2025: Parameswaran Iyer, currently an Executive Director at the World Bank, has been temporarily appointed as India’s nominee director on the IMF Executive Board, following the premature termination of K V Subramanian’s tenure, which ended six months before completion.
This interim move comes at a pivotal moment, as the IMF Executive Board is set to meet on May 9 to decide on two major agenda items:
1. Approval of a $1.3 billion climate resilience loan, and
2. The first review of Pakistan’s ongoing $7 billion bailout programme.
Iyer’s appointment ensures India retains its voice at the table during these key deliberations that have both regional and global economic implications.
