World should move from donor-recipient to partnerships based on solidarity and equality: PM Modi to G7 leaders

Business To Business, New Delhi, 16th June, 2026:     Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged world leaders to move beyond the traditional donor-recipient model of international cooperation and instead build partnerships founded on solidarity, equality, trust, and transparency.
Speaking at the Outreach Session on "Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity" during the G7 Summit, Modi said that global cooperation should reflect the aspirations of developing nations and the changing realities of the international order.
The Prime Minister emphasized that:

  • Global partnerships should be based on equality rather than dependency.
  • Trust and transparency are essential for sustainable international cooperation.
  • The world must adopt a more inclusive approach to development.
  • Developing countries deserve a greater voice in global decision-making.
He argued that nations should transition from a framework in which some countries are donors and others are recipients to one based on mutual respect and shared responsibility.
Modi highlighted the expectations of the Global South, stating that developing nations are looking to the international community for more equitable and effective cooperation.
India has increasingly positioned itself as a leading voice of the Global South, advocating for:
  • Greater representation in global institutions.
  • Fair access to technology and finance.
  • Sustainable development.
  • Inclusive economic growth.
During the session, Modi was seated alongside Donald Trump and other world leaders participating in discussions on global governance, development cooperation, and international solidarity.
Modi's remarks are consistent with India's recent diplomatic efforts to:
  • Promote reform of global governance institutions.
  • Strengthen South-South cooperation.
  • Expand development partnerships with emerging economies.
  • Advocate a more multipolar international order.
His intervention at the summit underscored India's view that future global cooperation should be driven by partnership and shared interests rather than traditional aid relationships, particularly as developing countries seek a larger role in shaping international agendas.
