Business To Business, New Delhi, 3rd June, 2026: The Indian National Congress on Wednesday intensified its attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party over the case involving Pema Khandu, alleging that the ruling party is attempting to shield the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister despite a court-ordered inquiry.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that Khandu continues to retain control over official files that could be relevant to the inquiry, and alleged that the BJP has chosen to "brazen it out" rather than ensure an impartial process.
The controversy stems from a directive issued by the Supreme Court of India on April 6, ordering the Central Bureau of Investigation to conduct a preliminary inquiry into allegations that public works contracts in Arunachal Pradesh were preferentially awarded to firms allegedly owned by, or linked to, members of Khandu's family.
Ramesh argued that allowing the Chief Minister to retain authority over files that may be relevant to the investigation undermines established principles of propriety and accountability. He further alleged that the situation amounts to an "insult" to the Supreme Court.
The Congress's remarks reflect its position and allegations. Any findings regarding the contract allocations and the role of the Chief Minister or his relatives will depend on the outcome of the CBI's preliminary inquiry and any subsequent legal proceedings. As of now, the inquiry process remains ongoing.
