'Sparse' turnout at TMC's first street protest after poll drubbing raises cadre disconnect questions

Business To Business, Kolkata, 21st May, 2026:    The All India Trinamool Congress on Thursday appeared to struggle to mobilise large grassroots support during a protest programme in Kolkata, weeks after losing power in West Bengal.
The demonstration, organised near Sealdah Railway Station against alleged post-poll violence and eviction drives targeting hawkers, saw participation from a limited number of party workers alongside TMC leaders including Kunal Ghosh, Nayana Bandyopadhyay and Madan Mitra.
The turnout drew attention because the party had, until recently, been known for its ability to rapidly mobilise large crowds and leverage its extensive grassroots network.
Political observers viewed the relatively modest gathering as a sign of possible organisational challenges facing the TMC following its recent electoral defeat.
