30 L beneficiaries of TMC govt's direct cash transfer scheme for women ineligible: Suvendu
Business To Business, Kolkata, 27th May, 2026: The statement you’ve shared involves claims made by Suvendu Adhikari regarding the implementation of welfare schemes in West Bengal.
According to his remarks at a press conference, around 30 lakh beneficiaries of the state government’s women-centric welfare programme Lakshmir Bhandar were allegedly ineligible. He claimed these individuals were either:
- Not Indian citizens, or
- Had their names removed from the electoral roll
He further stated that some beneficiaries had not applied for inclusion through processes linked to citizenship verification or tribunal procedures.
Adhikari also referred to a proposed new initiative called “Annapurna Bhandar”, under which he said a form was introduced as part of a new scheme framework proposed by the BJP in the state. He claimed the scheme would provide ₹3,000 per month to eligible women beneficiaries.
The remarks come amid ongoing political confrontation between the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) government and the opposition BJP in West Bengal over welfare schemes, voter list verification, and eligibility criteria.
At present, there has been no official response from the state government confirming or denying the specific figures mentioned in his statement.
