Business To Business, Kolkata, 6th June, 2026: Abhishek Banerjee travelled to New Delhi on Saturday amid growing concerns within the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) that the rebellion which resulted in the party losing control of its legislature wing in the West Bengal Assembly could extend to its parliamentary ranks.
The visit came a day before TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was scheduled to travel to Delhi for a meeting of the opposition alliance, INDIA bloc.
According to reports, Abhishek Banerjee's unexpected departure ahead of the original schedule has fuelled speculation within party circles about efforts to prevent or manage a possible split among TMC Members of Parliament. Party leaders are reportedly monitoring developments closely amid concerns that political defections could affect the party's strength in Parliament.
Under the original itinerary, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee were expected to travel together to Delhi on Sunday to participate in the INDIA bloc meeting. Abhishek's earlier arrival has therefore drawn attention and prompted speculation about internal discussions and political strategy.
The reports regarding attempts to engineer a split in the TMC's parliamentary ranks remain part of ongoing political speculation, and no official confirmation of such a move has been publicly announced.
