Amid dissent in TMC ranks, Mamata's 'Girgiti' poem takes swipe at political turncoats

Business To Business, Kolkata, 29th May, 2026:    Amid growing dissent within the All India Trinamool Congress following its loss of power in West Bengal, party chief Mamata Banerjee has shared a new poem titled “Girgiti” (“Chameleon”), which political observers see as carrying an indirect message for leaders criticising the organisation.
The poem, posted on social media on Thursday, appears to target individuals who frequently change loyalties, beliefs, and political positions for personal benefit, comparing them to a chameleon that changes colours.
In the poem, Banerjee wrote that some people are “more dangerous than a chameleon” because they change their character and allegiances within hours in pursuit of financial interests and personal ambition.
The development comes at a time when sections of the party have publicly expressed dissatisfaction following the TMC’s electoral setback, leading to visible internal strains and criticism from some leaders and functionaries.
