Anti-drug lessons to be introduced in school curriculum in Maharashtra, says Fadnavis

Business To Business, Mumbai, 03 August, 2026:   Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said Maharashtra continues to be one of India's leading states in school education and is strengthening its student-centric education system by combining quality education with the promotion of Marathi, preservation of history and modern educational infrastructure.
Chairing a review meeting of the state's School Education Department, Fadnavis directed officials to begin the process of including lessons on drug de-addiction in the school curriculum to raise awareness among students.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that:

  • Maharashtra has retained second place nationally in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2.0 for school education.
  • The state should continue implementing innovative initiatives across all schools.
  • Special emphasis should be placed on enhancing the quality of education in PM SHRI Schools and other government schools.
According to the official release, the government aims to further improve learning outcomes while ensuring that students benefit from modern facilities, value-based education, and a curriculum that reflects Maharashtra's linguistic and cultural heritage.
