Anurag Thakur serves privilege notice against Rahul over 'use of derogatory language'

Business To Business, New Delhi, 30th July, 2026:   BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Thursday submitted a breach of privilege and contempt of the House notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he used "unparliamentary and derogatory language" and made "grave and unsubstantiated allegations" against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
In the three-page notice, Thakur requested the Speaker to refer the matter to the Privileges Committee for a detailed inquiry and appropriate action. He also sought a direction requiring Gandhi to tender an unconditional apology to both the House and Amit Shah.
Referring to the Lok Sabha proceedings of July 29, during the debate on the anti-paper leak bill, Thakur alleged that Gandhi violated Rule 352 of the Rules of Procedure while narrating a purported conversation with students protesting over the examination paper leak issue.
According to the BJP leader, Gandhi's remarks amounted to a breach of parliamentary privileges and warranted examination by the Privileges Committee. The notice has been submitted to the Speaker for consideration.
