Assam Guv appoints Himanta as CM, swearing in on May 12

Business To Business, Guwahati, 10th May, 2026: Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Sunday appointed Himanta Biswa Sarma as the chief minister of Assam, paving the way for the third consecutive government of the BJP-led NDA in the state.
After being unanimously elected leader of the legislature party of the National Democratic Alliance, Sarma met the governor at Lok Bhavan along with alliance leaders and formally staked claim to form the government.
According to a notification signed by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, the governor exercised powers under Article 164(1) of the Constitution to appoint Sarma as chief minister.
