Bankipur bypoll: 34.24 pc of electors cast votes, over 7 pc dip from previous election

Business To Business, Patna, 30th July, 2026:   A voter turnout of 34.24 per cent was recorded on Thursday in the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar, where Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor made his electoral debut, challenging the BJP's long-standing dominance in the constituency.
According to the Election Commission (EC), the turnout was 34.24 per cent, marking a decline of more than seven percentage points from the 41.45 per cent recorded during the Bihar Assembly elections in November last year.
The electoral fate of 26 candidates will be decided when votes are counted on August 3.
The principal contenders include BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, RJD nominee Rekha Gupta, and Prashant Kishor, whose entry into electoral politics has drawn considerable attention.
The bypoll is being closely watched as a test of Kishor's political appeal and the BJP's hold over the urban constituency. Results will be announced on August 3.
