Before 2017, faith frequently targeted in UP: Adityanath

Business To Business, New Delhi, 18th July, 2026:   Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday criticised previous state governments, claiming that development, industrial investment and timely sugarcane payments to farmers were not possible in Uttar Pradesh before 2017.
Addressing a public function in Amroha, Adityanath alleged that between 2007 and 2017, earlier governments shut down 29 sugar mills and sold another 21 at throwaway prices. He said the BJP's "double-engine" government currently operates 122 sugar mills, has made sugarcane payments worth Rs 3.23 lakh crore, and increased the sugarcane procurement price to Rs 400 per quintal.
The chief minister also claimed that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the country's leading producer of sugar, sugarcane and ethanol. During the event, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 43 development projects worth Rs 207 crore, according to an official statement.
