Business To Business, Kolkata, 20th June, 2026: Narendra Modi on Saturday said that West Bengal had "broken free from its shackles" and begun a new phase of development, asserting that the impact of the recent electoral verdict was visible across the state.
Speaking at a programme held to mark Paschimbanga Divas, the prime minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several development projects before addressing the gathering.
Modi said that this was his first visit to the state after the elections and the swearing-in of the new government. According to him, a noticeable sense of optimism and renewal could now be felt across Bengal.
"Today, after the elections and the swearing-in, I have the good fortune for the first time to come among you. There is now a new freshness in the air of Bengal. It feels as if Bengal has now broken free from its shackles, and the return of Bengal's glory has begun," he said.
The prime minister linked the state's transformation to the recent political change and expressed confidence that the new administration would accelerate development, infrastructure growth, and economic progress. He also emphasized the Centre's commitment to supporting Bengal's development and restoring what he described as the state's historical prominence in the country's growth story.
The event featured the launch and foundation-laying of multiple projects aimed at improving infrastructure, public services, and economic opportunities in the state.
