Bengal govt relieves 243 officials, ends post-retirement extensions across boards, PSUs

Business To Business, Kolkata, 12th May 2026:   The Government of West Bengal on Tuesday released a list of 243 officials and nominated individuals who have been relieved of their responsibilities, marking a major administrative overhaul aimed at ending post-retirement continuance in various government bodies, boards and organisations, according to a senior official.
The move comes a day after the new Bharatiya Janata Party government directed all departments to immediately terminate the tenures of nominated members, directors and chairpersons of multiple non-statutory bodies, boards, organisations and public sector undertakings functioning under their control.
In an official order, the state government also instructed departments to discontinue the re-employment and service extensions granted to officers and officials who had continued in service beyond the normal retirement age of 60 years.
The decision is being viewed as part of a broader administrative restructuring exercise by the newly formed government following the recent assembly election outcome in West Bengal.
