Bengal govt's goals may suffer if bureaucracy goes unchecked: rebel TMC MLA

Business To Business, Kolkata, 25th June, 2026:   Rebel Trinamool Congress MLA Sabina Yeasmin on Thursday urged the West Bengal government to closely monitor the functioning of administrative officials, arguing that elected representatives alone should not be held responsible for shortcomings in public service delivery.
Participating in the discussion on the state budget in the Assembly, the Sujapur legislator said that while the government had launched several welfare initiatives, their effective implementation was often hindered by administrative bottlenecks and inefficiencies.
Yeasmin stressed the need for greater accountability across all levels of governance to ensure transparency and improve the delivery of public services.
"Public representatives should certainly be punished if they are found guilty of wrongdoing. But we can bring true transparency only when we examine every aspect of governance," she said.
The MLA maintained that evaluating the performance of officials alongside elected representatives would help identify gaps in implementation and strengthen public trust in government institutions.
Her remarks came during the ongoing budget discussion in the Assembly, where members debated issues related to governance, development and the implementation of welfare programmes across the state.
