Bihar: Nishant warns action against PMCH principal over absence during surprise inspection

Business To Business, Patna, 23rd June, 2026:   Nishant Kumar on Tuesday warned of action against the principal of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after finding him absent during a surprise inspection of the institution.
During his visit to the state's largest government hospital-cum-medical college, the minister reviewed the functioning of various departments and assessed the availability of essential medicines and medical equipment.
Principal Found Absent
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Kumar said:
"The availability of essential drugs is fine. However, the principal is absent. He neither left any notice nor handed over charge to anybody else in his absence. Appropriate action will be taken against him."
According to the minister, the absence was particularly concerning because no formal information regarding leave or delegation of responsibilities had been provided.
Review of Hospital Facilities
The inspection focused on:

  • Availability of essential medicines
  • Medical equipment and infrastructure
  • Functioning of hospital departments
  • Administrative arrangements
  • Delivery of healthcare services
Kumar indicated that the supply of essential drugs at the hospital was satisfactory but expressed dissatisfaction with the administrative lapse concerning the principal's absence.
Importance of PMCH
Located in Patna, PMCH is one of Bihar's premier government healthcare institutions and serves a large number of patients from across the state.
The minister's visit is part of ongoing efforts by the state government to monitor public healthcare facilities, improve accountability, and ensure efficient delivery of medical services.
Further action against the principal is expected to be decided after the department reviews the circumstances surrounding his absence.
