BJP legislature party meet to elect new West Bengal CM

Business To Business, Kolkata, 8th May, 2026:  The Bharatiya Janata Party legislature party is scheduled to meet in Kolkata on Friday in the presence of Amit Shah to formally elect its leader, with Suvendu Adhikari emerging as the frontrunner to become the party’s first chief minister in West Bengal.
The BJP secured a historic victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections, ending the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress and dealing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee one of the biggest setbacks of her political career.
Although the BJP has not officially announced its chief ministerial candidate, Adhikari has emerged as the leading contender after winning two politically significant battles — retaining Nandigram, where he defeated Banerjee in 2021, and wresting Bhabanipur, long considered a stronghold of the TMC supremo.
