BJP's Satish Poonia, Alka Gurjar, Cong's Neeraj Dangi elected unopposed to RS from Rajasthan

Business To Business, New Delhi, 11th June, 2026:   Three candidates—two from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and one from the Indian National Congress—were elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan on Thursday.
Elected Members
The candidates declared elected are:

  • Satish Poonia (BJP)
  • Alka Gurjar (BJP)
  • Neeraj Dangi (Congress)
Why No Election Was Required
The Returning Officer declared the three candidates elected after:
  • The deadline for withdrawal of nominations expired.
  • No additional candidates remained in the contest.
  • The number of validly nominated candidates matched the number of vacant seats.
Under election rules, when the number of candidates equals the number of seats to be filled, candidates are elected unopposed and voting is not required.
The outcome reflects the current numerical strength of the BJP and Congress in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, which elects Rajya Sabha members through an indirect voting process.
With two seats going to the BJP and one to the Congress:
  • The BJP strengthens its representation in the Upper House.
  • The Congress retains one seat from the state.
  • No cross-voting or electoral contest was necessary.
Rajya Sabha elections are currently being held across multiple states to fill vacancies arising from the retirement of sitting members. While some states such as Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand have witnessed contests and concerns over cross-voting, Rajasthan's election concluded smoothly with all three candidates securing election without opposition.
The results contribute to the ongoing recalibration of party strengths in the Rajya Sabha as several members complete their terms in June.
