Business To Business, Lucknow, 15th June, 2026: Akhilesh Yadav on Monday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party poses a threat to democracy and said that the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections would be crucial for safeguarding the democratic system.
Addressing party leaders and workers at the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow, Yadav urged party members to prepare for the upcoming electoral battle, describing it as a significant contest for the future of democratic institutions.
According to Yadav:
"The BJP poses a threat to democracy. The 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls will be crucial for protecting the democratic system. If democracy is not protected, the Uttar Pradesh election could be the last election."
He further asserted that it was the responsibility of the Samajwadi Party and its workers to protect democratic values and ensure public participation in the electoral process.
The remarks come as political parties in Uttar Pradesh begin positioning themselves for the 2027 Assembly elections, which are expected to be one of the most closely watched state contests in the country.
The Samajwadi Party, the principal opposition party in Uttar Pradesh, has been seeking to consolidate support against the BJP, which has governed the state since 2017.
